24h to revitalize India-Russia strategic ties

Russian President Vladimir Putin paid a 1-day visit to India to boost bilateral relations, especially on trade, with a country and a cold war ally that has come closer than ever to the United States for a decade. As Russia is undergoing a tense economic situation combined by a dramatic fall in both oil prices and ruble against the US dollar, Russia seeks with India, in addition to China, a “privileged strategic partnership”, further accelerating the shift of its production prospect to Asia. “We expect to secure ourselves the role of a reliable energy supplier to Asian markets,” Putin told PTI. Below $10bn, Russia-India trade (5,5 times less than US-India’s)  seems “far below potential”, said officials, and there is much room for “huge developments” in the years ahead, especially in the nuclear, oil and gas, and military sectors.
