One arrested in NYC for economic espionage

Three alleged Russian spies have been identified. Two of them who benefited from diplomatic immunity have left the US soil already and one of them has been arrested, said the FBI. As an employee with a Russian bank, the latter was allegedly working with Russian foreign intelligence service (SVR). The spy ring attempted to collect economic intelligence particularly about US sanctions against Russian companies that were taken within the framework of the war in Ukraine. US Attorney Preet Bharara recalled that the last case involving Russian spies operating in the USA already concerned the infiltration of upper levels of US business and government. “The presence of a Russian banker in New York would in itself hardly draw attention today, which is why these alleged spies may have thought (the arrested one) would blend in,” declared Bharara.
