Iraq and South Africa consider Energy bilateral cooperation

Hisham Al-Alawi, the Iraqi Ambassador to Pretoria, South Africa’s capital, met with South African Energy Minister, Tina Joemat-Pettersson, in Cape Town on October 15, 2015. Alawi conveyed the desire of the Iraqi government to establish a partnership between the two countries with a view to signing a memorandum of understanding in the energy sector, including oil, gas, renewable energy and electricity. Pettersson confirmed South Africa’s interest and said her ministry’s ready to cooperate with Iraq. A recent report from South Africa’s Department of Energy assessed that South Africa has become a “world player in renewable energy and is well on its way to achieving government’s goal of 30% clean energy by 2025.”
