Election Surprise in Germany?

According to an INSA poll for the German magazine Bild, the Social Democratic Party (SPD) represented by Martin Schultz would be beating Angela Merkel’s conservative CDU-CSU alliance if elections were to take place today. The SPD would be defeating the CDU-CSU by one percentage point with respectively 31% and 30%. Such an outcome seemed impossible even a few weeks ago, which may increase political uncertainty in the medium term.
