After the Brexit, France will be the sole military nuclear power of the European Union (EU). Given the increased dangerousness of the international context and the possible divorce between the EU and the Trump administration, a growing number of Germans is wondering about the relevance of acquiring nuclear weapons. Costly and with probably counterproductive proliferation effect, only a minority of German public opinion seems to support the launching of such a program. A majority considers the US guarantees are still sufficient in spite of the current tensions, whereas a significant more and more audible minority calls for a military alliance with France and even sometimes for the replacement of the US nukes stored on the German territory by French nukes.
