The BRICS take Donald Trump’s opposite side on Climate

Almost immediately after the withdrawal of the United States from the Paris climate agreement by President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron had replied in English that climate is everyone’s business by turning the slogan of the Trump’s election campaign into “Make our Planet Great Again.” Since then, most other heads of state and government, including those of the BRICS, have rallied Emmanuel Macron’s stance.

According to a Chinese official statement, BRICS Environment Ministers – from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – have “reiterated their intention to promote cooperation within BRICS in the area of pollution prevention, in particular air pollution.” Accounting for 23% of the world’s GDP, the BRICS “urged developed countries to transfer the needed technology to developing countries” with a view to accelerating and improving the fight against global warming.
