Germany adopts very strict laws for social networks

The German Bundestag passed a law setting up a fine of up to 50 million euros for social networks that would not erase “hate speech and fake news.”

In a political context in which most of the “elites” think that the election of Donald Trump or the Brexit’s win resulted from fake news spread on social networks, the government of Chancellor Angela Merkel who claims to be the bulwark of “Democracy” against “populism” now requires that all “hate speech” be removed from social networks within 24 hours, as well as for all “content deemed offensive” within seven days.

Many Internet users are worried that such a law could be used to censor any content that criticizes Angela Merkel’s policy and more broadly the European Union (EU) and European Central Bank (ECB) policies.
