Macron-Merkel disagreement, a major risk for the EU?

The information provided by French and German governments is unclear and it is therefore difficult to assess the seriousness of the disagreements between the leaders Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel on the distribution of key positions within the European Union (EU). On the one hand, Macron would seek to prevent the German right (CDU) from capturing the majority of these positions, while on the other hand, Macron would back Merkel to preside over the European Commission despite being in contradiction with the usual process that’s been used until now. In Berlin, some suspect that such a wacky idea exists only to mask Macron’s determination not to “give in” to Merkel’s political allies.
